Random Bits of Life

It’s your friendly neighbourhood singer songwriter here, spending all day illustrating and listening to mournful classical music (currently Barber’s Adagio For Strings is making me ache in the feels.)

I’ve been recording a Christmas song as requested by someone who puts out a Christmas compilation every year. I had to go at it to finish the words I had started about 5 years ago. It sounds so guitary, so unlike any Christmas song I’ve ever heard but he did say it was an indie Christmas compilation so fingers crossed he likes it. I like it at least, lots of shiny reverb-soaked electric guitar on there, yum!!

(Lakmé, Act 1 by Delibes, how delightful)

I’m also reading a book by a guy called Richard Reed - ‘If I could tell you just one thing…’ which interviews famous and successful people and asks them for one piece of advice. I’m finding it very enjoyable and fascinating to read as it also seems a way of distilling their personalities in some way and so it shows some small, more intimate part of these people behind the fame.

I’m not sure I could give out one piece of advice over another half a dozen that I have in my head at any one time. Be kind? Stop worrying? Wear comfortable shoes? That last one was from Cheers! Ok, here’s my one piece of advice:

“Follow the music.”

I’ll leave it to you to interpret and maybe expand in my next blog.

(Nagoya Marimbas by Steve Reich, a bit hypnotic.)

I appeared on Hope FM with Conrad Barr and Tim Heywood to play exclusive, never-before-heard Coosticks tracks and to play live and to chat to them about all sorts of crazy things! It was a lot of fun. Here’s a link if you fancy a listen: Livewire on Hope Fm
